What’s a typical session

If you’ve never had a deep tissue massage before it might be quite a daunting prospect to go and see someone you have never met before and let them work on your body.

That’s why it’s important to see a professional, who is both experienced and qualified to a high standard.

I am registered with the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC)and a member of the Sports Massage Association (SMA) and always operate to highest standards, as set out by the SMA’s Code of Conduct, Ethics and Practice

What to expect at your first session

You will be asked to complete a health questionnaire, all information will remain confidential. An example of this can be seen by clicking herePlease be aware that some conditions may require authorisation from your doctor, if in doubt, please email me or call in advance.

I will spend a little time trying to get to the root cause of your discomfort, whether it is work related, an old injury, or perhaps overuse of a particular muscle group, for example.

As part of this assessment, you may be asked to do some simple stretches or exercises to help to identify possible causes of your condition.

To properly assess postural differences you may be asked to remove some of your clothing. Please feel free to bring along some loose fitting shorts if you prefer or ladies might wish to wear a sports bra or bikini top.

Please remember, you are always in control throughout and you will not be asked to do anything you may feel uncomfortable with.

This is your session and I want you get the most out of it. Massage is a very personal thing and all of my clients will be treated according to their own personal boundaries.

Throughout the treatment it is important for me to have your honest feedback on the affect any particular technique is having. What works for one person may not have the same result for another.

Does it hurt? The simple answer is, no it doesn’t!

That’s not the way I work, I believe that one of the primary functions of massage is to relax your muscles and release tension.

If you put too much stress on a muscle the natural reaction is for it to tighten up even more and this makes it more difficult to enable the area to repair and function normally again.

All of us have different pain barriers and I will always work with you to ensure that you get the best out of your treatment. As part of your initial consultation I will find out what you want to achieve out of your session and will talk you through how this may best be achieved.

Since individuals respond differently to treatment it will sometimes take more than one session to alleviate certain problems.
I always allow plenty of time for clients to get changed and sessions are never rushed.
